Abandoned Houses by Kevin Bauman
We’ve seen some weird photography projects in the past and this one is definitely high on the hill. Kevin Bauman photographed 100 abandoned houses in Detroit, Michigan. Once a city of almost 2,000,000 citizens, Detroit has since lost over half its population over the last sixty years. With such a dramatic decline, the abandoned house problem is not likely to go away any time soon. The abandoned houses project began innocently enough roughly ten years ago. As the number of photographs grew, a documentary style emerged. Kevin switched from mostly black and white, to color, and decided to name the series 100 Abandoned Houses. Kevin Bauman can be found on his website.

Remember the good ol’ days when the hardest decision in life was what colour crayon to use in primary school? As much as we all hate it, we all have to grow up sometime. However, there’s nothing stopping us from being a five year old at heart. Growing Up is an infographic aimed for those who hate the thought of celebrating a birthday. The people who shed tears each time they notice grey hair. The genius behind this info-graphic is Jorge Estrada from Vancouver Film School. It talks about fears that come along with growing up such as People, Family, War, School, Girls, Work, Death and such things. You can find Jorge Estrada on Vimeo, LinkedIn and Behance.

It’s not often we glorify an artist for imitating another but as Picasso once famously said; “Good artists imitate. Great artists steal”. In that essence Konstantin Shalev is only a good artist. Having been influenced heavily by Jared Nickerson, Konstantin’s project titled Space Crime bears heavy resemblance to projects like Daddy Was A Jewel Thief and We Were Made For Fighting. Even though the project involves surreal vectors including an apple with an eye and grenades filled with gooey mess we feel they’re all beautiful. The set also feature the iconic red and blue wayfarers used in the cover of Less Than Zero. Konstantin Shalev can be found on Threadless, Blood Sweat Vector, LastFM and his online shop. There’s not much available to purchase at his shop and we get the feeling he’s abandoned it. If however you’re looking for sloppy sneakers and a skateboard deck without the wheels feel free to check it out.
Continue ReadingSuperbowl : Coca-Cola
Twitter was on the brink of collapsing as Yanks from all over The States tweeted about commercials that ran during The Superbowl. It seemed as if the commercials were of more interest as trending topics ranged from Budweiser to GoDaddy. If it was any of them that grabbed our attention it were the Coca-Cola series. Originality and general banter at its finest. The first featured recognizable characters from the famous TV show The Simpsons. According to the connotations of the advert, If you lose a billion dollars everything will be fine with a bottle of Coca-Cola. We’re not billionaires yet but we’ll be sure to get back to you on that one. Familiar faces such as Lenny, Karl, Selma and Patty all take away Mr. Burns’ possessions. Fear not Burns, Apu has some Coca-Cola for you. Everything will be oh-alright. The second advert is nothing like the former as it doesn’t feature any famous faces. A man who seems to posses similar sleep-walking habits like Lucy Westenra treks past a herd of Elephants and a hungry hippopotamus just for a bottle of the finest. Did we mention that both the adverts have catchy music that makes you want to tap your feet?
